Hello my pretties!!
I hope you all have finished Divergent, and enjoyed it! I thought it was a really good, easy read. Just as a reminder, the movie Divergent is set to release on March 21, 2014, so I expect everyone to go see it! I won’t be able to see it that weekend because I will be in Reno (more to come on that later) but I hope to see it when I get back! Maybe with my sister??? As we finish the first book of the year, I have some questions for all of you to answer. **Where do you see this book club going this year? Did you benefit from the book club last year? What would you be interested in reading this year? **All of these questions are things that you definitely need to ask yourselves, and answer for me! If you want your answers to be private from everyone else, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I definitely want this book club to be beneficial and fun for all of you, so be sure to shoot me your answers!
On another note, now that we have finished out first book club read, we are on to our already decided second, The Elite. I started reading it last night, so if you haven’t started yet, do not worry! You still have plenty of time to catch up! I would like to have Chapters 1 through 10 read by Friday, March 14, 2014. This gives you two weeks! I doubt we will need that much time, but if we do or have stragglers then we are prepared! This will also give everyone all of Spring Break (if you go to NCSU) to get caught up! I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to hearing your responses!

Questions:
- Tris’s mom says, “Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before the bad creeps back in and poisons us again.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?
- At the beginning of the book, Tris does not understand what it means to be Divergent. How do you think she would explain it by the end of the book?
- Were you prepared for the ending? Is it what you thought would happen?
- How does initiation change and transform Tris? Do you think she made the right faction choice?
- How do you think the death of Tris’ parents will affect her journey in the second book?
My Answers:
- One of my friends said the other day, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” I laughed, but if you think about it, it is kind of true. I think people want to be good, and try to be good, but evil will always take an opportunity to gain.
- To me, Divergent means that you do not fit into a certain mold, and since that is the case, everyone should be Divergent. Divergence is in all of us, we just have to be brave enough to accept it.
- I thought the ending felt rushed. I felt like the big battle reveal all happened so fast, and I felt like Tris discovered her parents and lost them in the same breath. I would have like to see the battle more elaborate, but I guess in real battle, everything happens so fast and you don’t catch or understand everything you want to.
- I think Tris turns into a badass! I also think that if she had chosen a different faction, then she would not have been prepared for the attack. She would have been useless, and instead of being useless, she was strong.
- I feel like such a close death will either motivate her, or hold her back in the second book. If she allows it to eat her, she will be sad and mopey and she will have to overcome these emotions, but if she understands that they were happy to sacrifice their lives for her, then she will be able to stay strong! It really could go either way!
What are your thoughts?
